Curriculum Statement and Vision
‘The effective curriculum contributes to the excellent development of spiritual, moral, social and cultural skills. Pupils enjoy studying a variety of topics that fascinate them. The topic on the digestive system entitled ‘bottoms and burps’ was a particular favourite. In Key Stage 1, pupils like researching and writing about their pets.’ Ofsted 2015
The Staff and Governors of Manor Park Primary School aim to tailor education to individual need, interest and aptitude so as to fulfil every child's potential. Every pupil will have access to a rich, broad, balanced creative and differentiated curriculum. However, it is recognised that every child has a different knowledge base and skill set, as well as varying aptitudes and aspirations; and that, as a result, there is a determination for every young person's needs to be assessed and their talents developed through diverse learning and teaching strategies. At Manor Park Primary School this means teachers plan creatively aiming to combine high standards in the basics with opportunities for enrichment and creativity across the whole curriculum.
At Manor Park we strive to mainly provide a thematic curriculum that fosters a cross-curricular approach to learning, encouraging children to gain a deeper understanding by making connections.
Our curriculum takes into account the interests and needs of our children, is relevant to our local surroundings and draws on the resources available in our community, is multi-cultural and promotes the skills needed by individuals to be successful in the 21st century.
It seeks to motivate and interest children and provides them with a purpose for learning. Clubs, trips, outside speakers and other planned opportunities for enrichment enhance the children’s’ experience. Outside learning opportunities are developed and utilised wherever possible within the Linked Curriculum.
At Manor Park we take into account different learning styles and use a variety of teaching styles and resources to teach the curriculum, allowing us to encourage and promote children to be independent thinkers, to learn through making mistakes, to challenge and ask questions, to make connections and see relationships, to communicate their ideas and work well with others and reflect on their learning and ideas.
