Year 6 Natural History Museum

Natural History Museum

As part of their introduction to their new topic ‘Darwin’s Delights’, children in Year 6 visited the Natural History Museum, London. During this trip, children took part in two discovery workshops. In the Evolution workshop the children examined fossils, got hands on with specimens and discovered Charles Darwin’s theory of natural selection. In the Investigate workshop the children explored over 300 real museum specimens, carried out their own scientific investigations and learnt how to use equipment such as microscopes, scales and magnifying glasses to support their enquiries. This trip provided the children with great platform for their learning and will inspire them as the term progresses.

Back at school, the children made their own Charles Darwin fact files. Using the iPads, they researched key elements of his life and discoveries and presented their learning as informative posters.
