Year 4 Engage Week
3rd June 2019
Year 4’s new topic is Playlist! During engage week, the children created posters about the different genres of music. They included information on what the genre sounds like and the typical instruments. They also learnt the names of some well-known artists and some of their songs.
Year 4 were able to practise their sketching techniques to sketch a saxophone or trumpet. They also used watercolours to create a stencil of an instrument on a music stave.
The children studied the work of some famous pop artists such as Andy Warhol and Howie Green. They used highlights and bright colours to design a patterned guitar. They also imitated the style of Andy Warhol’s ‘Marilyn Monroe’ painting by using felt tips to create a repeated pattern of a guitar, changing the colours each time to reflect mood.
The children also had a go at sketching to music. They used the mood of the music to influence what they drew and the colours they used.
Finally, the children designed and created an instrument using junk modelling. They then played their instruments together in small groups to form a band.
