Year 6 Literacy- Captain Robert Scott

As part of their topic ‘Frozen Kingdom,’ Year 6 have been learning about British explorer Captain Robert Scott, and his expedition to the Antarctic. They took a great interest in reading some of the real diary extracts he had written in 1912, using them to inform their own writing of diary entries, from the perspective of Captain Scott. The children focused on using figurative language and a wide range of punctuation to describe the challenges Scott faced on the expedition, as well as how it affected the whole team. As well as this, Year 6 wrote their own free verse poems about what one might see in a polar region. They focused on using the senses and figurative language to build imagery in the reader’s mind for their poems.
