Year 6 Engage- A child's War

Year 6 have been learning about World War 2 as part of their new topic ‘ A Child’s War’. They gathered research and recorded a timeline of the key events that took place during World War 2 using the ipads.

Year 6 listened to the different sounds heard during the war, including: the sirens, the all clear signal, the bombings and a Lancaster crew recording. Whilst listening, the children discussed the feelings and thoughts that people would have experienced and felt hearing these sounds.

Using their learning about rationing in WW2, the children followed a recipe to make their own carrot biscuits. They used sensory analysis skills to discuss their taste, texture, colour etc.

In their Art learning, the children used different colours to represent different emotions that an evacuee would have felt leaving home.“I chose yellow because they probably felt relieved that they were escaping the danger”- Amelie, Topaz. “I chose blue because they were probably devastated about leaving their families”- Freddie, Topaz.
