Year 3 - ScienceBack to News
As part of Year 3’s topic ‘Urban Pioneers’ the children have learnt about light and shadows around cities. To start their learning the children investigated what objects made different shadows from an urban environment such as a lamp post, post box and bus stop. The children then learnt about how shadows are formed and experimented with making shadows using a city skyline. By completing this activity, the children learnt that shadows are formed when the source of light is blocked. Following this, the children then learnt about how shadows can change and be altered. Using cubes to make their own building, the children investigated how the size of a shadow changes depending on the distance the light source is away from the object. The children found out that the further away the light source the bigger the shadow.
