Reception- Summer 1 TopicBack to News
This term’s topic has been 'Do Ladybirds have spots?’ We have had lots of fun exploring minibeasts, going on minibeast hunts, writing facts, and learning about the life cycles of different minibeasts. For example, we observed how caterpillars change into butterflies through metamorphosis; by having caterpillars in the classroom! We also welcomed other minibeasts into the classroom, such as snails, and learnt how to care for them. Also, we took part in a live minibeast webinar, virtually explored inside a beehive, and built minibeast habitats.
We have learnt many new skills in our writing, such as writing adjectives to describe minibeasts, using tricky words, and writing our own version of ‘The Very Greedy Bee’. During Phonics, we have continued practising all of our Phase 2 and Phase 3 sounds. We have been learning to recognise all of our sounds and apply these into words and even sentences. We have been trying hard to use capital letters, finger spaces, and a full stop.
We have also been very lucky to have music lessons each week, where we have played many different instruments, such as the castanets, to the rhythm and sounds of different animals.
