Year 5 - EngageBack to News
During Engage week, Year 5 started their new topic, ‘Allotment’. The children planted their own herbs and watched them grow over a few weeks. They also set up various other experiments and investigated what environments plants grew best in. Using their map skills, the children researched allotments and how they were arranged, including what kinds of fruit and vegetables would be grown on one.
In Art, the children studied work by the artist Giueseppe Archimbold, who used fruit and vegetables to sketch a face and Georgia O’Keefe, who drew flowers up close. Using a range of media such as watercolours and oil pastels, they experimented with shade, tone and tint to show lighter and darker patches when they drew fruit and leaves up close.
